Debbie Simon
I've been athletic my entire life. In school I ran track, played basketball and volleyball. I was able to turn my passion for exercise into a career of teaching fitness to others. I've taught everything from high impact aerobics to Pilates over the past 10 years. I took my first yoga class about 4 years ago. The practice of yoga filled in the gaps I was missing in my training program. I've found it to be a perfect compliment to the running and cycling I've taken up. The flexibility, relaxation, and balance really help me in all aspects of my life. As I discovered the many layers of yoga, I decided to enroll in an accredited yoga school to become a 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher. The training and focus I received have been priceless. After graduation, I plan to pursue an additional 300 hours in training and focus on bringing the benefits and fun of yoga to teen athletes. I have a teen and a pre-teen son who are active in many sports. Yoga has helped them with their tight hamstrings, spine, and hip flexors. It's also helped them develop the mental edge that's needed to become a great athlete.
To those teen athletes who might be a little nervous about practicing yoga, Stuart Rice once said, "Remember, it is more important for a smile to spread over your chin, then it is to get your chin closer to your shin!"
